The man made sure he wouldn't have to face combat. But he doesn't hesitate to send others.

As the mystery of the "wheres" and "whens" of President Bush's military
record finally captures the attention of the nation, we must be careful
not to lose the context of what we know for sure about his military
record. Based on long-available records, we know for sure that
now-President Bush's family used their influence to get their son into
the National Guard, to keep him out of combat in Vietnam. We know he
was bumped ahead of others on the waiting list for the Guard and that
he was protected from personal risk by his family's power and
influence. It is that reality that is the significant issue here. When
you put that into context with his blind rush to war in Iraq, you see
the heartless and hypocritical way that he's unnecessarily sacrificed
thousands of lives for reasons that we'll likely never know for sure. Is that really the kind of "service" we expect of our presidents?
